Amelie is a mother of two. Her daughter Dalia was born in November of 2012 at 27 weeks, 4 days. Dalia stayed at both the General and the Civic hospitals for a total of 86 days. Amelie’s son, Laurent, was born in January of 2016, and although he is not a preemie, he too had to spend a short time in the NICU. Amelie first got involved in preemie initiatives through organizing the first World Prematurity Day event in Ottawa back in 2013. She was later introduced to PoP’s founder shortly after Parents of Preemies Association began and joined the other preemie parents involved at the time. Amelie continues to foster the communication and partnership between PoP and the Ottawa Hospital and CHEO, she is a peer mentor for the Hand in Hand program, and coordinates World Prematurity. She also makes sure Parents of Preemies Association reaches out to families in both official languages. Amelie teaches the arts at a French elementary school and is a self taught musician.
